Christmas Newsletter 2015 from the Mission Field in Guatemala

Christmas Blessings

One of the blessings of this time of the year is the chance it gives to connect with our friends and family, and to thank each one of you that has blessed us throughout the year in finances and prayerful support. We are your outstretched hands and without each one of you our mission would not be possible. So, with all our love we wish you a truly blessed and happy Christmas season as we remember the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Juan Carlos

Sunday 6th of Dec. Juan Carlos was in a really bad state.  In fact, he was so poorly that the doctors thought he would die.  He developed a fever and lost consciousness.  They found an infection, but were not able to locate it in the body, so they assumed that it might be in his brain.  They immediately administered antibiotics, and thanks be to God they worked!  On Monday, Juan Carlos was able to answer questions about his name, the day of the week and other questions correctly.   Tuesday he was given a blood transfusion, and in the following days he received special nutrition IV’s to strengthen him and build him up.  The same Tuesday, Jeff was asked to pay the first part of the bill which amounted to 28,000 Quetzales (approximately $3,734), including the blood transfusion.

A week later on Tuesday 15th, the bypass operation was carried out which the doctors say was a success.  For five days Juan Carlos will be fed through a tube in his nose, and for eight days he is not allowed to have any visitors with the exception of his direct family and Jeff.  The cost of the bypass will be approximately 25,000 Quetzales (approximately $3,334), and on top of that will be the cost for the hospital stay, medicines, doctor’s fees etc.

So far 5,700 Euros ($6,180) have been donated to us and our other missionary family, and we calculate that another 8,000 Euros ($8,680) will be needed.  That is an awful lot of money, and so short before Christmas, not really an ideal time to ask for help.   But nobody chooses to be ill, and when it is about a person’s life, what alternative is there?

We want to thank those who have already helped Juan Carlos, and at the same time we want to show and explain how much more help is still needed, and with that ask again for your help.   Please let us know by email how much you would like to donate.  We thank you very much for your help.

Physiotherapy

I have been undergoing physiotherapy for the past 4 month to straighten my back and strengthen my legs after 10 years of 13 major operations on my back it has taken its toll on me.  It has been tough going but I have refused to give in.  I have also started early morning training in a local gymnasium.  I want to be fully fit for visits to Europe and India in 2016.  There is much to do before the soon return of the Lord. Here is a picture of my two pretty physiotherapists – Brenda and Angelica.
